What if we could not only see the patterns of a natal chart, but hear them? What if a chart could be approached not only as a map of symbols, but as a musical score?

That question became the starting point for Astrosonics.

Astrology and music share something fundamental: both are built on relationships. In astrology, planets form geometric relationships to one another through aspects. In music, tones form relationships through intervals, harmony, tension and resolution.

Astrosonics explores what happens when one system is translated into the other.

Using a defined set of correspondences between planets and musical tones, I map the positions and relationships within an astrological chart into musical relationships. Planetary aspects become intervals. Consonance and dissonance within the chart inform harmony and tension within the music. The geometry of the chart becomes part of the structure of the composition.

The result isn't intended to replace astrological interpretation. It's another way of encountering the same pattern — not through explanation, but through sound.

The Method

One of the obvious questions with all of this is: How do you determine which musical notes are associated with the planets and signs?

The truth is, there is no universally agreed-upon system. Different esoteric and musical traditions have explored these relationships for centuries, but there is no scientifically established set of musical notes belonging to the planets or signs.

I chose to begin with the traditional correspondence of Aries in the key of C. But rather than following the chromatic scale through the zodiac, I move through the circle of fifths, with each successive sign moving up a fifth. Aries begins at C, Taurus at G, Gemini at D, Cancer at A, and so on until all twelve signs are represented.

What fascinated me when I began working with this system was how the astrological relationships began showing up musically.

A conjunction brings us back to the same tone. A trine creates the relationship of a major third or minor sixth. An opposition lands directly on the tritone, halfway around the musical octave just as an opposition sits halfway around the astrological wheel.

And really, this is where the foundation of Astrosonics lies. It isn't so much about the individual notes, but the relationships between them. Those relationships become the harmonic framework I use to compose the music.
